Mr Lunatik's japanese story
Dear Dadarno,
Once upon a time a Japanese woman died of anger because her husband divorced her. Her rage was so great she dropped dead on the spot, her body ice cold. Her body lay freezing in a room. Everyone was afraid to touch it, because they feared the power of a corpse that died in anger. If they buried her, she could shove off the tombstone as easily as a horse flicking off a fly. If they burned her, her ghost would torment those who burned her until they went mad and ate their own arms. Frantically, the neighbourhood harassed the husband to come and see her body, and placate her corpse.
He, naturally, was petrified. He went to see a local medium, who advised him to visit at night. This he did, and when all the shutters were tight, and the town had bedded down for the night, he went with the medium to visit the corpse. The medium told him that he had to get on her corpse, and take firm hold of her hair, with a hank in each hand, and sit riding her corpse all night. `Whatever you do,` he said, `never let go.` `And what if I don`t do as you say?` the husband asked, his teeth chattering with fear. `If you don`t ride her, she will ride you, she will pursue you, torment you, not only in this life, but through several incarnations.`
Reluctantly, the husband got on the cold corpse, took her hair in his hands and held on. Sure enough, the corpse stood up, ran through the town with him holding on for dear life. She ran with increasing speed through the rice fields, and then started flying over the bamboo grove and up towards the mountains.
The husband desperately held on, as the village became smaller than a matchbox, and cold air whistled in his ears. After what seemed like several eternities flying, she swooped down to the room where she had been lying dead, returning like a bird to its nest. He clambered off, and staggered back to his house, after enduring the ride of a lifetime.
`Why are you telling me this story?` my girlfriend asked.
`I don`t want you to get a haircut,` I said.
