Hikkikomori is a Japanese term to describe people, particularly young men, who lock themselves in their rooms and refuse to come out. They interact digitally with the world, playing video games and watching anime.  Japan has approximately one million of them. Psychologists say that hikkikomori who spend more than a year in such a situation are extremely difficult to reintegrate back into society.

Japan locked itself in its room for 253 years, opening up only after its doors were kicked in by the Americans, who wanted a refueling port for whalers. Japan tried closing again, and only opened after Tokyo was firebombed, and both Hiroshima and Nakasaki were vaporised.  Burning down the house.

Before Tokyo was Japan's capital, it was known as Edo.  Earthquakes and the resulting fire have destroyed the city numerous times.   Fires were called the "flowers of Edo."  Rebuilding began before the embers were out. 

Police in Suginami-ku Tokyo are still confused about the hikkikomi who stabbed both of his parents to death and after setting the house on fire, locked himself in his room and burned to death.   Perhaps his rice was undercooked. 

A student of mine was a hikkikomi.  He came out after six months, with the dream to become a comedian.   Perhaps he should have stayed in his room.

"Flaming Yoko", the stripper, has trained her nether regions to do some astonishing tricks.   She can tootle trumpets, snap pencils, shoot darts, bend metal spoons and open vitamin bottles.  However, she really heats up the house when she injects some alcohol into herself, parts her thighs and then shoots the liquid, at speeds up to 180 kmph, into a waiting flame.
